Iced London Fog Tea Latte With Cold Foam
A London fog is made with earl grey tea, milk, and sugar. It’s a citrusy blend of black tea, oil of bergamot and a hint of lavender. This drink is traditionally served hot, but iced is just as good.

What Does an Iced London Fog Tea Latte Taste Like?
An iced London fog is bright and citrusy from the aromatics of bergamot oil with the subtle floral hint from added lavender.
It pairs well with milk, vanilla, and a sweetener which lifts it up to be slightly sweet, citrusy and refreshing all at once.
Note that bergamot oil is very fragrant and may be considered an acquired taste to some. A few years ago, it was not my favorite drink until I tried a London fog that was made in a cafรฉ exceptionally well – it grew on me!
What Ingredients Do You Need?
- Earl grey tea bagsย (I like Harney & Sons, which at the moment I can only find at target)
- Milk of your choice
- Sugar of your choice such as: honey, simple syrup, or maple syrup
- Ice
- Optional:ย vanilla extract,ย lavender buds
Are London Fogs Good Iced?
Yes! Classic London fog’s are served hot (yum). But in the warmer months you may crave an iced drink, and this latte tastes just as delicious as the warm version.
Tip: Double this recipe for 4 servings and save the tea in a jar in the fridge for the next day! Don’t add the milk and cold foam until you are ready to serve.

Is an Iced London Fog Sweet?
This depends on the sweetener that you use and how much of it you add. I prefer around 1-2 teaspoons honey or simple syrup. Adding a sweetener is not necessary but does pair well.
You can add vanilla extract if you prefer. Vanilla extract gives the drink a slightly warmer flavor.
The best part about learning how to make tea lattes at home, is that you have the ability to add and change the recipe to make the perfect tea latte of your dreams.

Does an Iced London Fog Have Caffeine?
Yes, there is caffeine in black tea. Because the way teas are processed is unique to each brand, there is not one specific amount of caffeine. On average, there is most likely a range between 40-80 milligrams of caffeine in an iced London fog.
One of my favorite brands, Harney & Sons, lists that there is between 40-60 milligrams of caffeine in their teas.ย They also sell a decaffeinated earl grey tea which is perfect if you have a London fog latte craving at night!
What is Cold Foam?
Cold foam isย a frothy milk-based topping. To make it, you aerate cold milk until it is very light and foamy. There are many ways to make cold foam! You can use a hand held frother, a blender, a French press, a cold foam machine, or even by shaking milk vigorously in a jar.

How to Make an Iced London Fog
- Add two cups of boiled water into a mug or jar and steep 2 earl grey tea bags for 5 minutes or follow the instructions on your tea box.
- Then, let the tea cool down for 10-15 minutes. To quicken the cooldown time, put the jar in the fridge. If you are short on time, you can add a good amount of ice, mix it quickly and serve right away.
- Once the tea has cooled down, add ice to two glasses.
- Froth milk using whatever method you have available. For this recipe,ย I used an electric frothing machine for thick foam.
- Add 1 cup of tea and 1/4 cup of milk to each glass and stir in your sweetener. If you’re adding honey, make sure to stir well until the honey dissolves.
- *Optional* Add vanilla extract and stir.
- *Optional* add your cold foam on top and sprinkle on dried lavender buds.
Serve right away and enjoy!
RECIPE CARD
Iced London Fog Tea Latte with Cold Foam
Equipment
- Electric Milk Frothing Machine optional
Ingredients
- 2 cups hot water
- 2 earl grey tea bags
- 1 cup whole milk, or milk of your choice (whole milk makes it creamier)
- 2 tsp honey, or simple syrup, or maple syrup
- ice
- dash vanilla extract optional
- pinch dried lavender buds to garnish optional
Cold Foam
- 1/2 cup skim milk
- 2 tsp simple syrup optional, to make sweet cold foam
Instructions
- Add two cups of boiled water into a mug or jar and steep 2 earl grey tea bag for 5 minutes or follow the instructions written for your tea steep time.
- Let the tea cool. To quicken the cooldown time, put the jar in the fridge. If you are short on time, you can add ice, stir and serve right away.
- Add ice to two glasses.
- In each glass, pour 1 cup of tea, add 1/4 cup milk, and 1 tsp honey into each glass and stir until the honey dissolves. Optional: Add a dash of vanilla extract into each glass and stir.
- Optional: Sprinkle some dried lavender buds on the top. They look pretty but they do add a nice floral taste.
Cold Foam
- Froth the skim milk using whatever method you prefer (electric milk frother, handheld frother, or shaken in a sealed jar).
- Add to the top of your tea latte. Sprinkle dried lavender buds to garnish.
Notes
- Divide the recipe in half for a single serving. This recipe can also be doubled for 4 servings.ย
- The best way to avoid watered down tea from added ice, is to prepare the tea ahead so it can be cold before serving.
- Earl grey tea tastes different depending on the brands. I find some teas are more fragrant with bergamot oil, while some brands are more floral. My favorite is Harney & Sons tea.
- Not-fat milk works the best due to high protein which makes thicker froth that won’t collapse. Non-dairy milks can work, such as unsweetened soy milk which is the highest in protein.
